Update 12/3/22: This deal giving a 10% discount on Target gift cards is now live, so I’ve added a link to the digital coupon below. Unfortunately the Cash App Boost has been reduced to 4%, but reader Matt has confirmed that you can pay with a Discover It card using Apple Pay on the Target app to earn 5% this quarter. It might therefore be possible to do the same with Google Pay if you don’t have an Apple device.
Update: I’d originally posted this deal as being December 4-5 – it’s actually December 3-4.
The Deal
- Save 10% on Target gift cards at Target.
- Direct link to digital coupon.
Key Terms
- Offer valid December 3-4, 2022.
- Limit $500.
- Available online & in-store.
- Must load Target Circle digital coupon.
Tips & Ideas
Target runs this 10% discount offer every year at the start of December and so it’s good to see it making a return for yet another year.
There are a few important things to be aware of. For starters, this is a Target Circle deal, so you’ll need to load a digital coupon in order to take advantage of the deal. That coupon isn’t available yet, so I’ll add that link when I republish this post on December 3 once the deal is live.
Something else important to note is that Target can be very vigilant when it comes to ensuring people don’t game this promotion. Many people have had cards zeroed out in previous years when they’ve identified people taking advantage of this promotion for more than $500 worth of cards. You’ll therefore want to ensure you don’t pay with the same card for any subsequent purchases. If using self checkout, maybe change which register you use for each transaction, although that could draw attention from Target employees. The digital coupon also means you’ll need to set up Target accounts ahead of time and load the coupon on each one.
You can pay in-store with digital wallets, so that can help you earn 5% cashback on the Discover It card this quarter. If buying online, you can hopefully pay by PayPal which makes the Chase Freedom and Freedom Flex cards an option for 5% this quarter too. Alternatively, check the Cash App in case this 10% Boost is still available on December 3 & 4.
Doctor of Credit says this deal is on December 3-4, you say December 4-5. Can you please double check your dates.
You’re right! Before publishing the post, I’d checked to see what dates they ran it last year and it was December 4-5 – I must’ve still had that in mind when writing the post rather than this year’s dates. Thanks for highlighting that – I’ve fixed the post.
There may also be an unstated one per household limit based on last name. The last two times this deal ran, we tried to place orders online for P1, P2 (different last name from P1), and P3 (same last name as P1). All orders were to be shipped to the same address. P1 and P2 orders went through. P3’s order was auto-cancelled both times, although she was subsequently able to place it over the phone with a supervisor and have the discount manually applied.
Also, remember to click through a portal. Sometimes, these purchases track and pay — you never know.
Can you also purchase these discounted Target gift cards with VGCs or MCGCs?
Yes. You can only make one purchase though, so you’ll want to use a $500 VGC or MCGC rather than a $200 one when buying online.
Great…and can you buy the target GCs in store as well? I’m asking because I’m at $300 or so left to max out PayPal for CFF this quarter and want to use my $200 VGC to leverage the full $500 deal (Target allow split payments maybe??).
Yes, provided they let you split payment (I’ve never tried), this offer should be available in-store too.
Thanks so much!!
In store you can split payment, online one payment.
For e-delivery methods (email, text) PayPal won’t work. The chat agent said for security purposes digital items require the credit card # to be re-entered.
Oh…and it’s a ONE-TIME transaction, so be mindful. The offer becomes grayed out once you make the purchase (probably goes for in-store as well). I was able to use PayPal for a physical gift card, though. Also for what it’s worth, I tried adding a $200 VGC to PayPal (for split payment), but that didn’t work either. Target ain’t playing this year.
Not sure what happened in your case, but I was able to order a gift card just fine via PayPal. Got the email delivery maybe two minutes later. You can switch to have PayPal use your password. I never do the code to my phone.
Same here, ordered email gift card using PayPal just fine.
Me-three-p.o. (on-line order via paypal went through apparently just fine — though haven’t received it just yet.)
I assume if you buy a digital gift card it will be tied to your account, fyi.
Wasn’t for me. I had to add it.
Not for this kind of deal. Other offers where you get a Target gift card free with the purchase of another gift card get locked to your account, but these straight 10% discounts can be resold as they’re not locked.
Google pay was not presented as a mobile checkout choice on the Android Target app.
Yeah, I was disappointed with that when I tried earlier too.
Confirmed. Wish I’d seen Brian’s comment and your confirmation before fussing so to try and find it…. 😉 (pays to read the comments too. )
