Tips & Ideas
It seems like they’re running this 4x deal every weekend now, so hopefully this continues long term. 4x points can be redeemed for up to 10% back towards gas or lesser amounts when redeemed for grocery savings or transferred as Alaska Airlines miles. While that’s not an amazing deal for all gift card brands, it could be a decent offer for higher value brands like Amazon, Best Buy, Apple, Disney, etc.
This digital coupon will stack with digital coupons for specific gift card brands. If there’s, say, a deal giving 10x points on a specific gift card brand, clipping that digital coupon along with this one would earn you a total of 12x. It wouldn’t be 14x (10x + 4x) because you earn 2x as standard on gift card purchases, so you sadly don’t get to double up on that portion of the earning rate.

Well, I have the 4x offer on my account, but purchases only gave 2x.
Seconding. I never got this to stack. Today I purchased a $100 Google Play gift card, and my receipt shows 1200 points earned. 1000 points came from a 10x deal and 2x is the normal earn rate.
It did stack for you. 2x is the standard earning rate. The Google Play deal gives you an additional 8x (for 10x), while this 4x deal gives you an additional 2x, so 12x is what you’d expect to earn when stacking those two offers.
Ah okay, that makes sense. Thank you for the clarification!

Will this stack with Birthday Earn 2x Points offer? If yes, would it be 6x (4+2) total?
Also, would appreciate if someone could clarify this for me, I live in a state where there is no Albertsons fuel stations, so I use rewards only for groceries 100 points=$1. In this case, do I essentially get just 6% back on gift card purchases? The only brand worth buying for me is Amazon, so if I were to buy $100 Amazon GC, best case scenario I would get 600 points for it, so just 6% back?
I’m not sure what the Birthday Earn 2x Points offer is. If that offer is valid on gift cards, then yes – it does sound like you’d earn 6x.
With regards to fuel, do they have any partnerships with nearby gas station chains as that’s what’ll often happen. If redeeming for groceries, you’d be doing better than 6%. You would indeed earn 600 points on a $100 gift card, but you can redeem 500 points for $7 off groceries and 100 points for $1 off, so a total of $8 back. If you buy larger denominations, you can do even better. For example, if you bought a $200 Amazon gift card, at 6x you’d earn 1,200 points. Those can be redeemed for $20 off groceries, so effectively 10% back.
Thanks for the response. This helps.
My birthday is in May, so I got the “Earn 2x Points through May 31” offer. The exclusions appear to be the standard ones, so should work on GCs. I just didnt understand the point made in the post as to why it wont earn 14x but only 12x “ It wouldn’t be 14x (10x + 4x) because you earn 2x as standard on gift card purchases”, but in my case it would be 4x+2x=6x ?
The only Albertsons chain we have here is Jewel. In the terms it says “Gas Rewards may be redeemed only at Safeway, Acme, Shaws, Vons, Randalls, Tom Thumb, Albertsons and Carrs branded fuel stations (collectively, “Albertsons Companies banner stores”) and at participating partner stations.” Now, that “participating partner stations” is an interesting clause. Is there a way to know who they have partnered with?
You earn 2x as standard on gift card purchases, so the 4x coupon from this post gives you an additional 2x. For deals where you earn 10x on a particular brand, that’s made up on the standard 2x with an additional 8x from that promo.
With your birthday promo, I’m assuming that’s a total of 4x, so it’s basically the standard 2x plus an additional 2x. If buying gift cards this weekend, you’d then get the additional 2x from this weekend’s digital coupon which makes it 6x.
With regards to finding a local gas station, log in to your Jewel account, click the ‘Jewel For U’ tab (assuming that’s there at the top on desktop) and then click ‘Program Details’ on the left. If you scroll down, you should see a link to ‘Participating gas stations’ – enter your zip code there and it should show if there’s any local gas station partners.
Would this be connected to Kroger’s pending deal to swallow Albertons’s/Safeway? Is the 4x similar in operation/terms to that from Kroger.? similar fuel points programs too? (with varying limits on cents off per gallon — and how many?)
Reminds me of when Kroger swallowed Harris-Teeter…. at first the programs were somewhat different, yet eventually they and their points …. merged.
Stephen!! Will this work with VGC purchases, trying to hit my SYW $1000 spend offer at grocery stores? Please answer, thanks.
In theory it won’t – it’s only meant to be valid on third party gift cards. However, with promos such as these sometimes they work in unexpected ways and so it can be worth testing it out in case it does work.
Does anyone know if Fred Meyer codes as grocery for the Shop Your Way card? anyone?
I know – absolutely it does. Happy shopping!
does 4x work on Visa/Master giftcard?
In theory it doesn’t. There have been occasions in the past though where Safeway et al have given rewards on certain types of Visa gift card purchase.
Somewhat off topic, does anyone have issues with redeeming points for Alaskan airline miles? I submitted two redemption (about a week apart for the 700 redemption tier). Safeway takes the points but never deposits the miles. About 5-6 weeks later Safeway refunds the just for you awards. Haven’t had this happened and was wondering if anyone else ran into this issue?
