Update 12/6/21: The 10% offer is back. The Staples Amex Offer ends at the end of the month, so if you’re not planning on using that in-store (perhaps for this week’s Mastercard gift card deal), it might be worth buying a $100 gift card online to use that and it’ll hopefully stack with this RetailMeNot offer. h/t EW
Update 11/4/21: 10% is back. It looks like you need to click through from the Staples entry on this page in order to activate the higher rate as the website is currently only listing the cashback rate as 5%.
Update 10/11/21: 10% is back – perfect for the Lowe’s deal.
Update 9/3/21: Rate is 10% today. Be aware of this comment by SideshowBob233 though.

Tips & Ideas
5% cashback for Staples is a fairly good offer, but we sometimes see rates that high or better on other shopping portals.
What makes this a little more noteworthy is that exclusions aren’t always adhered to.
Thanks…Fingers crossed
Great find. Thanks for sharing!
Dosh and Payce have card-linked offers for Staples… I have no idea if they’ll actually work for this, but worth a shot.
I’m curious if the $50 max earnings is per order, or some kind of lifetime maximum per person? I’m guessing it’s per order, but the wording isn’t very clear.
I’m guessing it’s per promotion period. I don’t RetailMeNot always offers cashback for Staples, so hopefully it’s a limit of $50 for now until the next promo period. I could well be wrong though as I tend to forget about RetailMeNot as a portal.
Dosh should work. I doubt Payce will work because this is an online purchase and so shouldn’t work for the in-store version of their offer and shouldn’t work for the online version as you’re supposed to click through.
Having said that, this RetailMeNot data point shows that things don’t always track correctly, so there’s certainly no harm in ensuring your payment card is linked in Payce.
My purchases for 5% and 10% cash back are now fully earned.
Starting on 8/4 my Staples purchases began coding as ineligible with Retailmenot. Before then it worked.
The item you bought, was this listed under the exclusions that do not earn cashback but although not enforced in the past?
I have a gc purchase on 8/4 that tracked and is pending. Purchased again on 9/2 and will let you know if it tracks.
GC purchased on 9/2 just tracked and is now pending
Has anyone tried this with open-loop cards, as opposed to Staples or other closed-loop cards?
Great tip, Stephen – thank you! I purchased VGCs through Staples dot com through the RMN portal at 5% back in September; it tracked and paid out, no problem. Submitted another order for VGCs today (11/4/21), and I’ve already received a notification that it tracked. I really appreciate the heads-up! ~Craig
Great, glad that it’s continuing to track.
“Ineligible due to suspected violation of Terms. Please contact Customer Care if you believe this was in error.”
Probably banned.
The link gives “This offer is not available.” There is a 5% Staples online cash back.
Thanks – looks like the rate changed overnight.
Is this per transaction or up to $50 total max per period
I’m not sure I’m afraid.
As long as your total spend across multiple purchases reaches $500 you are fine. But if you spent over $500 you will still only get $50 cashback max. So, you can have purchases of $250, $200, $100 which totals $550. You will earn $25, $20, $5 which totals the max $50 cashback.
But when does this reset? If I place a $500 order one day , earn the $50 max cashback and then place another $500 order the next day will I receive another $50 cashback?
Yes. That’s a risk for a shutdown there. Also, I have read about many people being shutdown by RMN for taking advantage of these offers everyday by only buying GCs.
Dead again… until next time.
It’s been a while since this was last posted, but Retailmenot is currently at 7%. Not as good as 10 but still may be worthwhile for some if the method still works. Can anyone validate if it does?
