Meijer has joined the ranks of Kroger and Giant Eagle as a grocery store that sells third party gift cards online.
You can access the site here. It’s powered by Blackhawk Network which presumably means that it won’t code as a grocery purchase, but I haven’t tested that out yet. It appears to be set up most similarly to Giant Eagle’s offering, but with a potentially key difference – Meijer’s site doesn’t sell Best Buy gift cards whereas Giant Eagle’s does.
Kroger’s online gift card site doesn’t sell Best Buy gift cards either though, so I don’t know if that decision is made by Blackhawk Network or if it’s up to each company they partner with as to whether Best Buy will be available to purchase.
At this point in time there doesn’t seem to be much reason to purchase gift cards from Meijer’s gift card site seeing as there’s no incentive to buy from them, especially if it won’t code as a grocery purchase. I’ll be keeping an eye on the site though in case they start running gift card deals at times.
When buying gift cards online from Kroger and Giant Eagle, you earn fuel points and Fuelperks+ respectively. Meijer doesn’t offer any kind of points like that as standard for their mPerks program, but it’ll be interesting to see if they tie in the online site with their somewhat frequent deals giving $5 Rewards for every $50 spent on gift cards. I doubt that would be of much use to someone who doesn’t like in Meijer territory seeing as they wouldn’t have a way to redeem the Rewards; then again, it could come in handy if you know someone who could make use of the Rewards.
Meijer sometimes has digital coupons offering 10% off up to $500 worth of gift cards. If that became available online too then that’d be awesome, although I doubt that’d happen seeing as Kroger’s digital coupons giving gift card discounts are available on in-store purchases only.
On the positive side, it does mean that one of the predictions I made at the start of the year has come true!

I don’t even see a way to log into your mPerks account when purchasing these. No advantage over buying directly from any other BHN site
I guess the way mPerks is set up it doesn’t really matter at the moment seeing as gift card purchases don’t ordinarily earn points or rewards anyway.
