Back in 2020, Stop & Shop stores were sent a memo stating that customers were limited to $2,000 of gift card purchases per day. That was followed up in early 2021 with a new, more restrictive, limit of $2,000 per household per week for their gift card deals.
Giant, Martin’s and Stop & Shop are all owned by the same parent company and tend to run the same gift card deals every week with a few exceptions. Ever since Stop & Shop made that change, Giant and Martin’s were seemingly unaffected, but that no longer appears to be the case for Giant.
For the last few weeks, Giant weekly ads have listed that same limitation of $2,000 of gift card purchases per household per week. It might be that this limit is regional and that Giant stores in some parts of the country are currently escaping that fate, but I imagine that it won’t be long before it’s rolled out to all Giant stores if that is indeed the case. I haven’t noticed that wording in any weekly ads for Martin’s, so hopefully that continues.
My understanding of how it’s worked at Stop & Shop is that loyalty accounts are hardcoded with that $2,000 limit, so it’s not something you can avoid unless you have more than one account. That’s presumably the workaround for Giant’s new limitations too.
It’s worth noting that there are two different Giant stores both owned by Ahold. Giant Food (aka Giant Landover) and Giant Food Stores (aka Giant Carlisle and Giant Martin’s). The logo you have is for Giant Food, and they have been showing the restriction to $2000 for longer than just a few weeks. Might even be almost a year now. Giant Good Stores still has no wording about $2,000 that I have seen anywhere.
