I’ve recently been getting some pleasant notifications on my phone a few days after buying gift cards in the Fluz app. Those notifications haven’t been coming from Fluz but from the Bumped app.
In case you’re not familiar with Bumped, it’s an app which offers you stock in companies or ETFs when spending money at certain restaurants and retailers. You get to choose the company in various categories, so you can earn 3% in McDonald’s stock when buying food from there, 0.5% in Kroger stock when buying groceries, etc. You don’t have to upload receipts as Bumped is a card-linked app. The tracking is therefore automatic when spending money at the retailers you’ve selected.
I’ve gotten some Fluz vouchers for referring new users which offer 35% bonus cashback on select gift cards. I’ve been redeeming some of those for $10 Starbucks gift cards and paying with a credit card via PayPal. I have Starbucks selected as my ‘Coffee’ option in Bumped and despite not buying the gift cards from Starbucks directly, it’s been tracking with Bumped as a Starbucks payment.
Seeing as Bumped offers 2% in Starbucks stock, I’ve been earning $0.20 in stock for every $10 gift card I’ve been buying. $0.20 per $10 obviously isn’t a huge moneymaker, but if you’ll be buying gift cards in the Fluz app anyway, you might as well pick up some additional rewards if that brand is also one on offer with Bumped.
Paying for gift cards in the Fluz app directly with a credit card doesn’t seem to trigger earnings from Bumped, presumably because those payments simply show up as ‘Fluz’ or ‘Fluzpay’. Paying via PayPal on the other hand includes the name of the gift card brand you buy which can be seen in the image below. Bumped must therefore be parsing transactions simply for the name of the retailers, restaurants and services you’ve selected in the app.
There’s also something else notable about the image above, but I’ll leave that one for you to work out.
Update 1: I forgot that you need a referral link to join Bumped – here’s mine. I don’t receive anything for this, but once you’re on the waitlist you can refer other people to get bumped up the waitlist.
Update 2: I think Drop might also work in a similar way to Bumped. I registered for this bonus deal and selected Starbucks as my brand which was stupid seeing as I was planning an Amazon order and so should’ve selected that instead. It all worked out though because I received a notification on my phone today confirming that I’d received the 1,000 bonus points from Drop for spending at Starbucks. I hadn’t actually done that, so presumably one of the Starbucks gift cards I bought from Fluz triggered that bonus too.
Update 3: It looks like Pei stacks with this too.
Update 4: Fluz won’t necessarily use the credit card you want to be charged via PayPal automatically. There are therefore a couple of quick steps you need to take when checking out each time – read this post for what to do.
CIP or CIC?
CIP
I’d assume CIC would be the same, but I don’t have one to test it out.
bumped is invite only, can any one put referal link
I’ve added that to the end of the post.
