I noted a few days ago that GiftCardMall had replaced iTunes gift cards with Apple gift cards following Apple’s announcement that existing iTunes gift cards could be used to purchase Apple products (although GiftCardMall seems to have temporarily stopped the sale of them).
Reader Dev noticed the next day that Amazon was also selling Apple gift cards. At least one other retailer has now joined the fray as Best Buy is now selling Apple gift cards although they are, for now, also still selling iTunes gift cards.
The sale of Apple gift cards seemed to go live about 30 minutes ago as of when this post was published. When they first showed up on Best Buy’s website, there were numerous different denominations available – $15, $25, $50, $100 and $200. The $200 denomination was particularly notable because in the past Best Buy had only sold iTunes gift cards up to $100 and Amazon is only selling the new Apple gift cards up to $100.
Since noticing that change at ~1am and writing this post though, Best Buy seems to have pulled several of the denominations. As of right now, only $15 and $25 Apple gift cards are listed. The fact that they had created listings, generated SKUs, etc. for other denominations means gift cards for higher amounts will presumably return in the coming hours and/or days.
