At the end of July 2020, Apple announced that it would be possible to redeem iTunes gift cards for all Apple purchases, not just in the App Store.
It looks like they might be in the process of retiring iTunes gift cards for new purchases as GiftCardMall no longer stocks iTunes gift cards. Instead, they’ve been replaced with Apple gift cards, or ‘Apple gift codes’ as they have them listed. Apple refers to them as ‘gift cards’ on their own website though, so I imagine GiftCardMall will eventually update the wording from gift code to gift card.
I therefore wouldn’t be surprised to see iTunes gift cards being phased out online and in bricks and mortar stores in favor of Apple gift cards. It remains to be seen if we’ll see promotions on Apple gift cards in the future. I doubt we’ll see anything particularly notable, but I’d love to be proven wrong.
Update 8/15/20: As Dev notes in the comments below, Amazon has also pulled iTunes gift cards and replaced them with Apple gift cards.
even amazon also change itunes to apple giftcards and available for purchase now
