The Fluz app has made a few positive changes in recent months to payment methods it accepts and options for cashing out the cashback you earn when buying gift cards in the app. They’ve added PayPal as a payment option, offered 1% bonus cashback when paying by bank account and added Venmo as a cashout method.
They’ve now added Apple Pay as a payment method which will be helpful for some users.
If you’re not familiar with how the app works, check out this complete guide to Fluz.
Hi Stephen – I noticed this today too. For those with a US Bank Altitude Reserve card, this may be useful. In cases where a merchant is also on the Slide app, Slide will probably be better as its 4% rate is almost always higher than whatever rate is available on Fluz. But there are a fair number of merchants that are available on Fluz but not Slide; for instance, Home Depot.
The Fluz angle you mentioned in your other post about 5x earning on Chase Ink Plus/Cash cards should be even more useful – great way to get 5x UR + 0.5% CB (maybe sometimes 1% with a promo rate?), without even having to drive to OD/OM or Staples to purchase a physical Amazon card.
Good stuff – thanks for posting! ~Craig
You’re welcome! The one potential problem with the Altitude Reserve is that US Bank is very sensitive to gift card purchases when earning 3x. I’d imagine you’d be OK for occasional purchases of low denomination cards, but if doing volume via mobile wallet, it’s certainly more risky.
Stephen and/or Craig,
Any data points that you’re aware of on Altitude Reserve and Fluz CG purchases since this post? I’d love to be able to take advantage of this feature, but it’s not worth risking having my account closed. I know there was a lot of chatter about shut downs some years back, but blogosphere seems to be mostly radio silent the past 2+ years. Thanks!
To be honest, I’m not sure how safe it would be. I haven’t heard any recent DPs on the Altitude Reserve either; I’m not sure if it’s because people deemed it not worth it after the initial account closures, or if people are having success and don’t want to risk publicizing it by giving DPs!
