Tips & Ideas
Saving 15% is a good deal, but you can in theory do even better by stacking other offers. For example, there’s a Winc Amex Offer giving $15 back when spending $30. Buying a $150 gift card and getting 15% off comes to $127.50, so an additional $15 off makes that $112.50, or a total of 25% off.
It’ll also stack with shopping portals – you can see the current rates here and here, but make sure the terms of the portal offer state that you’ll earn cashback/rewards on gift card purchases. Some of them might only pay out for your first wine order, whereas some portals (e.g. TopCashback) specifically note a cashback rate when buying gift cards.
There’s also a card-linked Winc offer for some shopping portals run by Collinson – see the rates here. The return isn’t very generous, but a few extra points is better than nothing.
There’s a Winc Citi Merchant Offer giving $20 back on $30 spend which is $5 better than the Amex Offer. However, the terms of the Citi Offer state the following:
All promotions and wine purchases require a 4 bottle minimum. This offer does not apply to gift orders, cannot be combined with any other offer and may only apply to $13 bottles. Offer is valid for new members only and is non-transferrable.
I’m therefore not sure if the Citi Offer will be valid on gift card purchases.
Having said all that, this 15% discount when using promo code LOVEWINC isn’t necessarily going to be worth it if you have that Amex Offer available. That’s because the Amex Offer is valid up to four times. If you bought three $50 Winc gift cards (to match the total value you’d get from using the promo code on a $150 order), you’d get three $15 statement credits for a net cost of $105. That’s less than the $112.50 cost from using the 15% promo code and only being able to use the Amex Offer once.
That’s unless you don’t have to make separate transactions with the Amex Offer though. If multiples of $50 in the same transaction trigger more than one statement credit, buying a $150 gift card and using the 15% off code would cost $127.50, but then you’d get a total of $30 back in statement credits, making your net cost $97.50. I’ve no idea which way Amex will process the statement credits though, so let us know in the comments if you test that out.
