Tips & Ideas
The higher tier is tempting seeing as $75 cashback on $1,250 of spend is a 6% bonus. It’s not quite as good as some past promotions which offered $100 bonus cash, but $75 still isn’t too shabby.
I’ve taken advantage of past offers by buying Visa gift cards from GiftCards.com. For this latest promotion, you could buy 5x $250 Visa gift cards which come with an activation fee of $6.95 per card plus $8.29 for trackable shipping. That means your total cost would come to $1,293.04.
In return, you’d earn 1% cashback on $256.95 of spend per card (Upromise tracks the card value and activation fee, but not the shipping fee), so that’s $12.85. You’ll then earn $75 bonus cashback for a total of $87.85.
After taking into account the activation fees and shipping costs, that’s a profit of $44.81. Depending on liquidation costs, your profit might be a little lower. $44.81 profit isn’t tremendous, but any way to buy Visa gift cards profitably online is always welcome. It’s also an easy ~$1,300 of spend which you’ll earn credit card rewards on; that could be particularly helpful if you’re trying to meet the minimum spend requirement on a new (non-Amex) card.
Remember that GiftCards.com now limits you to earning cashback through portals on only $2,000 of spend per month. If you’re wanting to prioritize this bonus, you’ll therefore want to ensure you don’t make similar purchases to take advantage of other airline shopping portal bonuses (see here and here)
