Target is running Target Circle Week next week and off the back of that it looks like they’re making a negative change to the program.
Per the terms and conditions on this page:
Beginning April 7, 2024, Target Circle members will no longer earn Target Circle Earnings rewards (the former name of Target Circle Rewards) at a rate of 1% of the eligible purchase amount every time a member uses a non-Target Circle Card form of payment. Any previously earned Target Circle Earnings rewards will roll over as Target Circle Rewards on the same terms and conditions as existed at the time they were received, subject to all other requirements set forth in these Target Circle Terms.
I don’t make a ton of gift card purchases from Target now that online purchases have the bonus Target gift cards attached to your account, but my understanding was that you received 1% back in Target Circle earnings when buying third party gift cards.
Based on that wording above, it looks like going forward that won’t be earned depending on which payment method you use. What’s not entirely clear is what constitutes a “non-Target Circle Card form of payment.” I’m assuming they basically mean that if you’re not paying for purchases with a Target gift card or Target RedCard that you won’t earn 1% back in Target Circle earnings. However, perhaps a non-Target credit card which is saved to your Target Circle account will count – we’ll have to wait and see exactly how this is implemented.
Anyway, it’s worth being aware of this change coming in on April 7 if that 1% in Target Circle earnings ever has an impact on whether or not you’re interested in any given gift card deal.
Interesting move because I’ve noticed every time I use my red debit card I don’t get any target circle earnings already, presumably because I’m getting 5% off the purchase price.
That’s correct. It’s one or the other
I believe that Target Circle Card refers to the Target CC, debit card, and prepaid card. This means that we will no longer earn 1% when using any other payment method and we will only earn the % back from whatever Circle Card we use.
Target Circle Card likely is in reference to the RedCard, as RedCard is being renamed to Target Circle Card.
I don’t think they will count Target gift cards as a Circle payment method.
Actually is going back to the ways things used to be. They used to not give any sort of reward for a non RedCard payment.
This thing is very confusing. What has happened before is target red card purchases have not earned anything and other CC purchases have. So does this mean neither will earn or suddenly target red card purchases will start earning. Will have to wait and see.
On a side note there was a positive development this week. Usually target circle bonus says make X purchases of $Y and you will get a bonus. When Y > $100 it is very difficult to meet the terms just with GC purchases because you can’t buy multiple GCs in a single transaction. This week’s bonus was tied to red card and requirement could be met cumulatively over multiple transactions.
