Update 8/11/20: Sur La Table has been purchased by SLT Lending SPV Inc. and SLT IP Holdings LP. While this is good news as it means gift cards will continue having some semblance of value, it sounds like they’re still planning on closing more than half their stores which might make it harder to redeem gift cards if you’re holding them for personal use.
This probably isn’t going to matter for the vast majority of you, but I wanted to cover it anyway just in case. We used to see fairly frequent Amex Offers for 20% off at Sur La Table, although it’s probably been a couple of years since I remember seeing one of them.
At the time it was possible to buy Sur La Table gift cards to trigger the Amex Offer, so some of you might have purchased them for personal use or reselling. If you’re still holding any of them, it’ll be of interest to know that they filed for bankruptcy protection yesterday and are planning to close almost half their stores. It sounds like they’re in the process of lining up a sale of the remainder of their stores and so they’ll hopefully manage to make it through this, but it’s worth being aware of in case you want to spend or resell any gift cards you have left for them.
