Back in 2015, American Express launched Amex Express Checkout and to encourage people to try it out, they offered Amex cardholders a $10 statement credit when spending $10+ and checking out using Amex Express Checkout.
There were 11 eligible retailers, but the nature of some of those businesses meant you had to spend well in excess of $10 for an order, although there were a few exceptions. One of those was Newegg and another was Sabon.
With the latter, you could buy $10 Sabon eGift cards which effectively made them free after the statement credit. Even better, those were the days when you could load an Amex Offer to every Amex card you had using the multi-tab trick. As a result, you could buy a $10 Sabon gift card on every Amex card in your household for free if you didn’t want to go the Newegg route. You could then redeem multiple gift cards in the same order to reduce/eliminate shipping costs, plus you earned cashback going through a shopping portal, making it a profitable deal. As a result, my wife had a very nice-smelling Christmas stocking that year. (Sssssh….don’t tell her this was how 😉 )
Anyway, if you happened to buy Sabon gift cards from that Amex Express Checkout offer or have been gifted them at some other time and haven’t gotten around to redeeming them yet, be aware that Sabon has filed for bankruptcy protection. Your gift cards can still be used online (and in-store if they’ve actually been allowed to reopen), but it might be worth placing an order to use them up in case they have to close the business permanently.
Do not see gift card payment option on the checkout. Did they pulled that maybe?
When you add an item to your shopping bag, the window that pops out on the right has an option for ‘Gift Card Code’.
