Update 4/6/23: Wendy has confirmed in the comments below that earning 3x points is effectively getting 6% back which can be redeemed on groceries. It’s therefore a much better deal than I initially thought it was, but still not a great return on these brands.

Tips & Ideas
I’m not very familiar with how these kinds of Schnucks deals work. From what I understand, you don’t normally earn points on gift card purchases there. Spending $500 on eligible gift cards would earn you 1,500 points which can be redeemed for $3 off groceries. That would be such an appalling bad deal that it’s not even a deal, so I feel like there must be some other element to this.
Please let us know in the comments if this “deal” is better than that.
You get 10 points per $1 spend, so with this deal you’d get $6 in rewards on a $100 gift card. It’s not as bad as you thought, but it’s still not that good a deal, especially on these brands.
Ah, that makes more sense. Do you always get 10 points per $1 spent on gift cards? When I looked at the terms of the program it made it seem like you didn’t. Or do you not normally earn points but when they run these limited time promos you get the 10x and 3x combined for 30x?
Basically it’s structured so you normally get 2% back on groceries. You don’t normally get points for gift cards unless they have a special like this. On groceries, it’s always 10 points per dollar spend, although sometimes they have bonus points deals on certain foods too (instead of a sale price you get extra rewards). Back around the Christmas holidays they had a 5x deal on any gift cards, max of 4 if I remember right, and I was able to get 10% off on some really good ones. In fact, I think I found out about that here, so thank you!
That’s what I was a little confused about. I’d taken a look at that 5x deal and seen that I’d said it was like getting 10% back, but I couldn’t work out how I’d come to that math and was worried I’d made some kind of error – glad that wasn’t the case. Thanks for confirming how this 3x deal works 🙂
