It’s been a while since I last stepped foot in a Bed Bath & Beyond store. However, reader Roman reached out to share a problem he had when buying gift cards there recently which is worth being aware of in case you end up there this holiday season (perhaps to liquidate Happy gift cards).
Here’s what happened:
I recently bought two gift cards in a single transaction at Bed Bath and Beyond. The transaction seemed to take a long time, and the receipt printed with a message that the GC activations were “pending” and could take up to 24 hours — something I had never seen at BBB before.
I waited 24 hours, checked, and only the first of the two gift card was active. I went back to the store, and the manager told me that this was a known, newly-emerged POS bug, and that, until further notice, one should only ring up one gift card per transaction at BBB. He said the cashiers are being trained to do this.
Seeing as Bed Bath & Beyond is aware of the issue, hopefully it gets fixed sooner rather than later. However, I’ve no idea how competent and/or prompt their IT team is, so if you want to reduce potential hassles in your life, it might be worth only buying one gift card per transaction for the foreseeable future at Bed Bath & Beyond.
Confirmed. I had this issue as well.
A better question is, did they refund you for the gift cards that didn’t activate in cash?
This must be a very new issue because I had no issue with the 20% cash back flash sale with chase offers
I went back and they grudgingly issued me new ones in place of the ones that didn’t work
Happened to me on 10/23 during the flash sale but didn’t happen on 10/29. I think it must be just happening intermittently.
I had this exact same issue happen to me on 10/23 when I bought $75 worth of Amazon gift cards. I bought it around 8:45 PM right before the store closed. However, I bought 4 amazon gift cards at the self checkout on 10/29 in the middle of the day and didn’t have this issue. So I think the only thing we can take from here is that this issue is happening some times but not other times. And there is no guarantee that the issue has anything to do with the number of cards that you buy.
DP: bought two cards today, one per transaction. No activation issues. Cashier was aware of the POS issue.
