Pay With Ibotta is a feature in the Ibotta app that lets you buy gift cards instantly, similar to MPX, Fluz, etc.
They’ve sent out an email to users advising that from June 10, 2020 they’ll no longer accept payment by credit card. Instead, you’ll have to load a Visa or Mastercard debit card to your account and pay that way.
That limits the already limited usefulness of the Pay With Ibotta feature. If it’s possible to use Visa and Mastercard gift cards, some people might like to redeem cards that they’ve bought at 5x during fee-free/profitable promos at Staples and Office Depot/OfficeMax seeing as you can then, for example, also earn an additional 1% cashback when shopping at Walmart.
Here’s the full text of the email; I like how they’re doing the standard thing of disingenuously claiming that the restriction they’re adding is an improvement.
In an effort to bring you the best offers possible, we will no longer support credit cards or Discover debit cards as payment methods for Pay with Ibotta transactions starting on June 10th, 2020.
To continue using Pay with Ibotta and avoid any interruption in service, please use a Visa or Mastercard debit card. To update your payment method on file, tap Account > Payments > Payment methods and follow the instructions.
Thank you for your support as we continue to improve Pay with Ibotta.
FYI – I’ve never been able to use VGC or MCGC for Pay with Ibotta
That’s good to know – thanks for the heads-up. I guess that means this change is even worse.
