In not-overly-exciting-but-could-affect-some-readers news, Kum & Go – the midwest chain of gas stations and convenience stores – has announced that it’s being acquired by Maverik – another chain of gas stations and convenience stores – and its parent company FJ Management. FJ Management is who also partly owns Pilot Flying J.
This is potentially interesting from a gift card perspective because Kum & Go tends to run gift card deals each month. They seem to be somewhat decent deals, but the scalability of them is limited seeing as you earn points for savings on gas rather than them giving discounts on the gift cards themselves.
I’ve no idea if Maverik will still run Kum & Go as its own chain with the same kind of deals or if they’ll eventually convert to Maverik stores. If they convert to Maverik, that could impact on the gift card deals as I’m not aware of Maverik running those.
