Tips & Ideas
I debated whether or not to bother posting about this because I can’t really think of a reason why you’d want to buy Amazon gift cards from Ibotta. Although it’s nice to earn cashback when buying Amazon gift cards, 1% isn’t particularly rewarding, especially considering you have to pay with a debit card as Ibotta doesn’t accept payment by credit card.
Even if you had a debit card offering 2% cashback, that’s still only 3%. You can do much better by buying an Amazon gift card at a store that offers bonused spend in that category (e.g. grocery stores, home improvement stores, etc.), especially if you can stack it with earning fuel points, grocery rewards, etc.
Ultimately, I decided to post this more out of general interest that Amazon is allowing Ibotta to sell their eGift cards in the first place. For quite some time Amazon has seemed to restrict who’s allowed to sell their eGift cards. Fluz has been selling them for a little while, now offering 0.25% cashback for credit card payment, 0.75% for debit card payment and 2.25% for payment by ACH from your bank account.
There are many other gift card apps and sites that don’t sell Amazon gift cards though, such as Bitmo, PayPal Digital Gifts, MyGiftCardsPlus, eGifter, GiftCardMall, etc. The fact that it’s been opened up to Ibotta hopefully means that we’ll start to see Amazon gift cards on some of these other sites and apps too which could introduce new ways to save on or be rewarded for buying Amazon cards.
