Tips & Ideas
On the face of it, this appears to be a great deal as I’m not seeing a gift card exclusion. Earning 1% back means that some products sold at Walmart will be virtually fee-free.
I’ve never used Pay With Ibotta and can’t guarantee that gift card purchases will be allowed, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. I can’t imagine this will last for long though (or certainly not without a gift card exclusion), so it might be worth taking advantage of this sooner rather than later if you’re interested.
If you’re new to Ibotta, here’s my referral link. They do seem to have some kind of incentive for both the person referring and the person being referred, but I’m not sure what that is.
Update: As per Pwd847’s comment below, it looks like I might’ve needlessly gotten my hopes up about this. It sounds like Pay With Ibotta works in a similar way to MPX; if that’s the case, buying gift cards probably won’t work. If anyone tries it out before I have a chance, please let us know in the comments below if you were successful.
Update 2: As per Matt’s comment below, it looks like you can buy third party gift cards when using the steps he outlines, but not VGCs, MGCs, etc.
It’s the same as the United Airlines GC app. You type in total and it gives you a GC code. So I doubt these stores will allow you to buy GC with GC.
Ah, good to know – thanks. I might give it a try tomorrow once I’m back near a Walmart to see if that’s definitely the case.
You can buy a gift card with a gift card at Walmart. So, this would work. For e-giftcards like these to purchase a gift card you will need to either find a cashier that knows how to use the handheld scanner to scan the egiftcard or you need to use a self-checkout machine that has a handheld scanner. You have to use the handheld scanner. You select “gift card” as payment and then you use the handheld scanner to scan the barcode. It works with all giftcards that are not visa/mc/amex.
Thanks for sharing that – I’ll mention this in the post.
