Tips & Ideas
Note that this offer is specifically only valid on Hotels.com gift cards – not for paying for a stay itself. Saving 20% on a Hotels.com is a nice discount for personal use as well as being profitable or break even for reselling.
Although you can’t use more than one gift card per booking, you can merge Hotels.com gift cards. My understanding is that you can only merge one way, so if you merge from card A to card B, you can’t merge card B to card C, but I think you can merge both cards A and C to card B if that makes sense.
their physical and digital are through cashstar which usually doesn’t track but there is no choice so I guess it will work?
Yep, with these offers that are specifically for a gift card it doesn’t matter that it’s with CashStar – Amex presumably has the coding set up to take that into account that CashStar is the payment processor rather than Hotels.com themselves.
You can combine 2 gift cards that have not been previously been merged. Once the gift cards are merged, you have to call customer service to combine those gift cards with others, but… for any gift cards you want to merge, you have to know the original balance and where it was purchased or they will not combine them. So always take note of original balance and where it was purchased eg: newegg.com, bestbuy.com etc. Another work around is to use a previously merged card to book a room with free cancellation, (make sure the room exceeds the gift card balance so that the whole card is used) , then cancel the reservation and hotels.com will send you a new gift card for the same amount. Now you can combine this card with another that has not been previously merged.
That’s good to know – thank you!
