At some point in recent weeks, the Drop app launched a new Premium level and I’ve only just realized that I’m now a Premium member. There are some useful benefits included for Premium members and it doesn’t cost you anything to get this status, so it’s worth doing.
Here’s my Drop referral link – we’ll both get 5,000 points (worth $5) when you sign up and earn 1,000 points ($1). If it asks you for a specific referral code, mine is tmtf2.
How To Become A Drop Premium Member
From what I can tell, all you need to do to become a Drop Premium member is to link at least one payment card in the app. You can do this by tapping the Profile button in the top left corner (the head and shoulders icon) and then tapping ‘Link a card’.
How Much Does Drop Premium Cost?
Drop Premium is free as it only requires that you link a payment card – there’s no monthly or annual fee.
What Are The Drop Premium Benefits?
- Premium Offers – Card-linked offers (such as those found here)
- Monthly Point Drop – Earn 1,000 points every month as a Drop Premium member
- Boosted Surveys – Earn 2x points when completing surveys every second week of the month
- Hoops Replay – Get a second play of Drop Hoops every day
Are Drop Premium Benefits Any Good?
Drop Premium benefits are surprisingly good for a loyalty program that only requires that you link at least one payment card. Here are a few of my thoughts about each benefit.
Premium Offers
Examples of those can be found here. At the time of writing this post, you can earn 15x points (worth 1.5% back) when paying with a linked card at Walmart, Amazon, Kroger, Target, Trader Joe’s and more. You can also earn 40x (worth 4% back) at CVS and 7-Eleven.
Gift card purchases are excluded, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that’ll be enforced. Earning 1.5% or 4% back could therefore be very lucrative; even if gift card purchases don’t track, 1.5% or 4% back is a great return as it’ll stack with other deals like Amex and Chase Offers, shopping portal cashback (where online purchases are also valid), bonused spend categories, etc.
Monthly Point Drop
This is a benefit that I just discovered today and which prompted me to write this post as it’s free money. Every month Drop gives Premium members 1,000 points free which is worth $1. That’s obviously not going to make you rich, but they’re giving you something for nothing (well, nothing other than access to your purchasing habits).
The 1,000 points aren’t credited automatically though – you have to claim them. To do that, tap your points total in the top right corner and you should then see a button asking you to claim the 1,000 points.
Boosted Surveys
Drop has a section in the app where you can complete surveys in return for points. Being a Premium member means you get a 50% increase in the number of points you earn. Every second week of the month that boost is increased to 100%.
Completing the surveys generally isn’t a good use of your time as it’s a return of ~$5 per hour at best. There might be times where it’s worth completing a quick survey though. For example, every Tuesday Drop has a Spin game you can play which offers free points or bonus points when completing a certain activity. One of those activities is sometimes completing a survey, so if there’s one that’ll only take a minute or two to complete, it could be worth doing for the Spin game’s bonus points.
Hoops Replay
If you tap the ‘Games’ menu tab in the app and scroll down a little, there’s a game called Hoops you can play once a day if you’re a regular member or twice if you’re a Premium member.
As the name suggests, Hoops is a basketball game. It isn’t the most compelling game ever, but you earn points every time you play it. On average I earn 300 points per day which is worth 30c, so it’s not a huge money maker as that’s only ~$110 per year. However, I do it for fun to scratch my game-playing itch each day seeing as I’ve deleted all other games off my phone as I found I got too sucked into them and wasted too much time playing them each day. Playing Hoops means I spend a few minutes enjoying a game each day while also earning free money towards gift cards.

If you decide to sign up for Drop, I’d appreciate it if you used my Drop referral link – we’ll both get 5,000 points (worth $5) when you sign up and earn 1,000 points ($1). If it asks you for a specific referral code, mine is tmtf2.
