The Drop app doesn’t allow you to cash out your points as cash. Instead, they give you four different types of redemption options:
- Gift cards
- Crypto
- Collectibles
- Contests
In my opinion, gift cards are the only option worth redeeming points for, although I’m sure some prefer redeeming points for crypto. The downside with their gift card selection is that they don’t offer a particularly large variety of eligible brands and denominations.
That’s not to say there hasn’t been anything of interest. High value brands in the app have included Amazon and Nike, so those have been good options for reselling if you didn’t want to redeem Drop points for gift cards for personal use.
At some point recently Drop has added at least a couple of new brands eligible for gift card redemptions – Walmart and Lyft. There might be others too; for example, I don’t remember seeing Target as an option in the past and that’s there now too, but perhaps it’s always been available.
It’s always nice to have more gift card redemption options, so this is a positive development. It’s particularly interesting that Walmart has been added seeing as Discover has also recently added Walmart as a gift card redemption option with your Cashback Bonus. Hopefully that means Walmart gift cards will start showing up as redemption options – or discounted in some way – via other apps and websites such as Bitmo too.
