Discover has released its full 5% calendar for 2021 and it’s looking good if you’re interested in maxing it out when buying gift cards.
Here’s a quick look at what to expect:
January-March 2021
- Grocery stores
- Walgreens
- CVS
It’s a little bit of a shame that Rite Aid isn’t on the list as that’s the drugstore chain which runs the best gift card deals. Still, it should have very little impact on your ability to max out the Q1 categories seeing as grocery stores are a simple way to max out the $1,500 quarterly bonused spend.
April-June 2021
- Gas stations
- Wholesale clubs
- Streaming services
If you have Speedway gas stations near you, that could be a good gift card buying option for maxing out your 5% spend. Otherwise, some 7-Eleven’s code as gas, while Sheetz also sells a wide range of gift cards.
Otherwise, wholesale clubs like Sam’s Club, BJ’s Wholesale and Costco sell a good selection of gift cards and frequently run sales on some gift card brands too.
July-September 2021
- Restaurants
- PayPal
When restaurants used to be the solitary option in a quarter, many people had a hard time maxing it out. Having PayPal as an option is therefore an awesome alternative seeing as so many places accept PayPal for regular purchases.
There are numerous websites and apps which sell gift cards and accept payment by PayPal, so it shouldn’t be too hard maxing out the $1,500 limit in Q3.
October-December 2021
- Amazon.com
- Walmart.com
- Target.com
This is the same list as this year’s Q4 options. Amazon tends to run gift card deals over the holidays, as do Walmart and Target, so spending an average of $500 per month via these websites should be easy for most people.
