If you’ve bought gift cards in the Bitmo app recently and paid by PayPal, you might have had issues with getting transactions properly completed, especially a second transaction just after buying another gift card.
If you’ve already been charged for a gift card but not had it issued in the app, send an email to ‘support at bitmo dot com’; that’s what I did a few days ago when I had this problem and they got it resolved within about 24 hours. Bitmo is aware of this issue and their developers are apparently working on the process of you getting returned to the app after completing payment.
In the meantime, there’s a workaround I discovered which can help ensure you always get the gift card that you paid for. For some reason this workaround only seems to be needed when buying a second gift card, but it’d be good practice to follow these steps for any gift cards you buy in Bitmo until they fix this problem.
Before buying a gift card, make sure the app is closed on your phone. The process of doing this will vary depending on your device, but on my Google Pixel 4a 5G I have to press the square in the bottom right corner…
…and then swipe up on the app to make it disappear.
Now that the app is closed, reopen Bitmo and go through the regular process of buying a gift card. When paying by PayPal, the screen you see after submitting payment might look something like this.
If you see a button that says ‘Done’ in the top right corner, you can just click that and it’ll return you to Bitmo and the card should be issued with no problems. If you only have an X though, click on that. That’ll return you to Bitmo, but the card you just bought won’t immediately appear. Instead, it’ll return you to the Checkout screen.
On that screen, tap the back arrow ( < ) in the top left corner. That’ll take you to the card denomination screen.
Tap the back arrow in the top left corner one more time and you should finally see a popup with a link to view your new card.
OK, so you now have your first gift card. If you’re wanting to buy a second gift card, this next step is important – you need to close the app again. Do that using the same method that you used at the beginning of the process, then go ahead and buy a second gift card using the same steps listed above.
When exiting out of PayPal the second time, you should be able to tap the back arrows twice to get your second card to show up. For some reason this process doesn’t work on your second transaction unless the app has been closed in between (you’ll click the back arrows, but won’t see the popup and the card won’t be in your wallet), so be sure to close the app if you don’t want to have to email Bitmo to get them to issue the card.
