Just to give you a heads up, gift card purchases from CardDepot.com are apparently coding as U.S. Advertising in Select Media with Amex which means that they’re earning 4x Membership Rewards on the Amex Business Gold card.
Card Depot is run by the guys behind The Card Bay and is an outlet where you can buy second hand gift cards at a discount (similar to Raise, CardCash, etc.). If you have an Amex Business Gold card and are planning on buying discounted gift cards for personal use from a site like Raise or CardCash, it’s therefore worth comparing discount rates because if those are similar, it’d be nice to also earn 4x Membership Rewards on the purchase.
just because i see some conflicting reports online – is it safe to use gift cards to meet MSR / usual spend on the biz gold (and any amex card, for that matter)? the clawbacks I’ve seen have largely been MSR-related and they seem to care less about regular 4x on category spend as long as it’s not tens of thousands a month, but curious to hear your assessment stephen.
I’ve met minimum spend requirements with Amex before almost entirely through gift card purchases. I’d avoid a bunch of $505.95 or $500 transactions (or multiples of those amounts), but otherwise I personally would be fine buying gift cards.
