Tips & Ideas
Capital One Spring ran a similar deal a few months ago and you had to apply for a bulk-buying business account from Blackhawk Network. Nick at Frequent Miler applied and ended up being declined, but I heard from another reader who shared more about the process. Here’s my summary based on what he shared with me:
First off, if you were counting on paying for these by credit card, you’re seemingly out of luck as payment has to be made by ACH or wire transfer.
Second, orders aren’t processed until payment has been received (which is fair enough), then it takes 1-2 business days for the order to be processed, then cards are mailed. It could therefore take a week or so for you to receive the gift cards after you’ve placed an order.
Third, for security the cards are shipped inactive and so you have to activate them in their portal before you can use them.
Fourth, you can only order physical (not eGift) cards for the following select brands:
- Happy Lady
- Happy Bride
- Happy Teen
- Happy Dining
- Happy Moments
- Happy Eats
Fifth, order fees start at $2, but don’t increase much beyond that regardless of volume, then shipping fees are as follows:
- UPS Next Day – $50
- UPS 2nd Day – $25
- UPS Ground – $13.50
There might be a slight change to that list of eligible Happy gift card brands seeing as Happy Holidays is eligible for this new promotion, albeit at 6% rather than 7% for other brands. That might still be useful though because Happy Holidays gift cards are ‘Swap’ cards where you redeem them online. It might therefore be a case that Blackhawk Network emails you the Happy Holidays cards which would remove shipping fees, although they might choose to ship you the cards instead.
Anyway, a 6-7% discount on Happy gift cards is far from spectacular, but could be handy for some people/businesses who’d like to lock in a discount on a bulk number of cards.
