Update 8/16/20: This deal is no longer showing on the Capital One Spring website. That makes it seem like this promo has ended, but it might still be possible to use the HAPPY promo code.
Update 7/31/20: I’ve heard from someone who’d already been approved for this program. They’ve provided some additional details for how this program works.
First off, if you were counting on paying for these by credit card, you’re seemingly out of luck as payment has to be made by ACH or wire transfer.
Second, orders aren’t processed until payment has been received (which is fair enough), then it takes 1-2 business days for the order to be processed, then cards are mailed. It could therefore take a week or so for you to receive the gift cards after you’ve placed an order.
Third, for security the cards are shipped inactive and so you have to activate them in their portal before you can use them.
Fourth, you can only order physical (not eGift) cards for the following select brands:
- Happy Lady
- Happy Bride
- Happy Teen
- Happy Dining
- Happy Moments
- Happy Eats
Fifth, order fees start at $2, but don’t increase much beyond that regardless of volume, then shipping fees are as follows:
- UPS Next Day – $50
- UPS 2nd Day – $25
- UPS Ground – $13.50
The Deal
- Save 7% when buying $200+ of Happy gift cards from Blackhawk Network & using promo code HAPPY.
- Direct link to offer.
Key Terms
- Expiry date unknown.
- Minimum 10 cards.
Tips & Ideas
While we often see discounts larger than 7% for Happy gift cards (such as the potential 25% savings on gas when buying Happy gift cards at Safeway when they’re offering 10x Reward Points), a 7% discount that’s possibly available year-round is still a nice deal.
In theory.
There are a number of hoops you have to jump through to take advantage of this deal. First off, you have to have a business to buy them and Blackhawk Network requires your Federal Tax ID. I’m not sure if you have to have a registered business or if entering your SSN as a sole proprietor will be sufficient.
There’s then a somewhat lengthy application process which includes needing to provide a website on the first page of the application form, then the second page asks for all kinds of other details. That includes what your company does, how you’d be using the Happy gift cards, whether you’d be reselling them and more.
And that’s not even the end of the application process. Note that at the bottom of that second page there’s a box for a promo code, so you’d presumably enter the promo code HAPPY there to get the 7% off. I’ve no idea if that’s a one time use code or if you can use it for every order you place.
I’m not interested enough in getting 7% off Happy gift cards to apply myself, so I’ve no idea what’s required on the third page of the application and beyond. If you’re interested in these cards for gift card reselling purposes, I doubt Blackhawk Network will approve your application if you give that as the purpose of your business, but who knows.
