Bitmo has gone up greatly in my estimations over the past 6 months. It’s an app that sells gift cards and they’ve run tons of great deals since the turn of the year. They’ve also launched the Perk Points rewards program that rewards you when buying gift cards in the app and has a generous referral program.
In addition to being able to buy gift cards, they have a card-linked element to their program which offers 1x Perk Point per dollar spent in-store. That’s not only valid at all retailers for which they sell gift cards in the app, but lots of other retailers too. That includes Target, Kroger brands, Safeway/Albertsons brands, Walmart, Sam’s Club, Costco, Trader Joe’s and more.
1x Perk Point is only worth 0.1% back and so it’s not an amazing return, but if you generate a lot of spend at participating stores then it can be a great return as it seems to be uncapped. For example, it’s lovely getting 40c back for every purchase whenever this offer comes around on top of the $7.98 you can earn from Dosh.
Anyway, there’s been one aspect of Bitmo’s card-linked program which has bugged me since they launched it. They used to only let you link one card per bank, so trying to pick the optimal Chase, Amex, Citi, etc. card to link was annoying as it meant you’d be missing out on a bunch of points if you spread spend on multiple cards from the same issuer.
Well, there’s good news on that front. Reader EW reached out to give me a heads up that Bitmo changed things recently as they now allow you to link more than one card per login.
I thought he was mistaken at first because when linking cards using Plaid, it still only lets you select one card rather than all cards under that login. However, when actually choosing a card it subsequently linked the rest of the cards from that bank too.
There do seem to be limits though. When adding a total of 13 cards across all banks, the option to add more cards disappeared. I’m not sure if that’s a device issue or if there’s a hard limit in the Bitmo app. Several of the cards that got added I wasn’t worried about having linked as I don’t generate much spend on them, so I deleted those and added a few more from another bank. However, the maximum number of cards I now seem to be able to link is 14. That’s far better than the half dozen that I could link before, but still not as many as I’d like.
Just FYI, I hard the hardest time trying to link Amex cards. I don’t know if this issue is widespread, but it took something like a dozen login attempts to actually link any of my Amex cards. There are a few of those cards still not linked due to the seeming limit of 14, but if you keep getting an error message when trying to link Amex cards, be persistent and it’ll hopefully work out for you eventually.
Let us know in the comments below if you manage to link more than 14 cards.
Thanks. Is there a limit to the number of Amex credit cards we can add? Bitmo added two Amex cards to my Bitmo account. Together with cards issued by others, I have less than 14 cards in my Bitmo account. Yet, when I try to add more Amex cards, I receive an error message saying I have already linked cards for this financial institution.
I cannot add more than one Amex card
