Reader Mark reached out the other day to share that Apple Pay seems to no longer be working when buying gift cards from a couple of retailers.
He’d tried to buy gift cards at Target in-store and it wouldn’t let him pay with Apple Pay which is a change from a month ago. He’s not sure if that’s only at the store he visited though or if it’s more widespread. I don’t have an Apple device, so let us know in the comments below if you encounter the same thing.
The second retailer is eGifter when buying gift cards from them on mobile. That’s surprising seeing as Apple Pay now seems to be the only payment method out of 37,819 other options that no longer works. He reached out to eGifter and they advised that they’re trying to get Apple Pay back, but don’t have any timeline on when or if that’ll be returning.
In addition to the loss of convenience for some people who’d normally use Apple Pay for these purchases, that could be disappointing when trying to pay with a card that earns more on mobile wallet purchases.
Also let us know in the comments if you encounter any other retailers where Apple Pay is no longer accepted for gift card purchases.
It seems Target very recently has revamped their payment system. Was unable to buy Cheers to You cards using a meta bank mcgc earlier this week. Which is something that has always worked in the past.
Not sure if other are having this issue but the last 2 times I tried, I received an error when trying to use ApplePay at giftcards.com
