For the last few years the American Express Gold card’s $10 monthly dining benefit has been useable at the following restaurants/retailers:
- Grubhub
- Shake Shack
- Boxed.com
- The Cheesecake Factory
- Ruth’s Chris
Amex has made a change to that benefit today. Ruth’s Chris and Boxed have been removed and the following retailers have been added:
- Wine.com
- Goldbelly
- Milk Bar
Unless you frequently used the benefit for dining at Ruth’s Chris or ordering from Boxed, this is a great development. The reason for that is that it’ll now be much easier for people to redeem the benefit who previously had trouble making use of it because all three of these new retailers sell gift cards online.
I know for sure that Wine.com processes eGift card payments themselves and it looks like Goldbelly and Milk Bar do the same. However, buying Wine.com and Milk Bar gift cards won’t be as worthwhile because the minimum gift card denomination for both retailers appears to be $25, but you can buy Goldbelly gift cards in $10 denominations. Be aware that Goldbelly might place a limit on how many gift cards you can redeem per order; I’ve checked on their site and can’t find any information about whether or not that’s the case.
Having said that, the Wine.com option might still be of interest for some people because we sometimes see Wine.com Amex Offers (such as this latest one.) You can redeem those Wine.com Amex Offers by buying gift cards, so if you load that Amex Offer to an Amex Gold card you’ll get both the statement credit from the Amex Offer and the $10 from this card’s dining benefit.
Update 6/7/22: A rep from American Express has reached out to advise that “you CANNOT use their dining credit towards Gift Card purchases.” Whether you actually can’t use it for gift card purchases or they don’t want you to use it for gift card purchases is another matter.
