Amazon launched a bunch of new gift card deals yesterday which were set up in a different way to normal. In the past they’ve offered an instant discount when entering the applicable promo codes, but these deals were different as you paid full price for the gift cards and were offered Amazon promotional credit instead.
Note that Amazon promotional credit isn’t the same as an Amazon gift card. The promotional credits from these deals have an expiry date of November 5, 2021 and so can’t be resold as Amazon gift cards.
What wasn’t clear is if you’d be able to redeem them for gift cards or if more than one code could be redeemed on a transaction. Amazon has started sending out these promotional credits and so I tested them out to see how they’ll work.
The good news is that they can indeed be redeemed for third party gift cards (I haven’t tested it on Amazon gift cards). You can also redeem more than one credit per transaction, presumably up to covering the entire cost of your cart.
For example, I added a $100 Best Buy gift card to my cart and was able to add a bunch of credits:
Note that the credits get added on the checkout page in the box labeled ‘Add a gift card, promotion code, or voucher’. After entering one code hit ‘Apply’ and enter the next one.
Thanks, Stephen, this is helpful. This is a bit of a sh*t show of Amazon. The terms and conditions of this promotion is very clear that these promotional credits would be automatically applied to your amazon account. That did not happen. Instead we’re getting emails with specific promotional codes you have to manually enter. Imagine the breakage Amazon will reap from lost emails, people not realizing it’s not automatically applied as advertised. The cynic in me says this is their plan, but the realist says this was a glitch or likely incompetence on their part.
