Tips & Ideas
Amazon runs gift card deals every so often as part of their Gold Box Deals. In the past, all customers have had access to the deals, although Prime subscribers gain access 30 minutes earlier than non-Prime members.
Last year Amazon changed that for Prime Day as only Prime members had access to Prime Day gift card deals and I suspect the same thing will happen again this year. Those deals have already started as Amazon is offering $10 in promotional credit when buying a $40 Amazon gift card ahead of Prime Day from June 21-22, 2021. In 2020 several other gift card deals started a few days before Prime Day started, so if you don’t already have Prime membership it might be worth getting one now in case more deals get launched early.
The good thing is that you can get a free 30 day trial membership of Prime. That means you can take advantage of Prime Day deals in the next few weeks, then cancel after it’s over if you don’t want to continue membership after that. One thing to note is that you can only get a free trial if you haven’t had a Prime membership in the last 12 months. If you got a free trial for Prime Day last year, you won’t be able to get one again as that was held in October and so was only 8 months ago.
The ‘Direct link to offer’ above takes you to the landing page to sign up for Prime. I’m not sure if that automatically gives you the free 30 days trial, so click the ‘See More Plans’ link below the ‘Try Prime’ button. Select monthly or annual and then click ‘Start your 30-day free trial’.
Something to note is that the link above is our affiliate link. If you think you’ll want to continue with an annual Prime membership, you’ll be better off clicking through from TopCashback. That’s because TopCashback offers a $15 Amazon gift card for signing up for a membership. The listing says that you’ll get it when paying for a $119 membership, so I’m assuming only annual memberships get that reward rather than month-to-month Prime memberships.
I think you’re right. The agent I chatted with spent 10 minutes talking with their tech department and they seemed to believe it should be available to non prime as well, but apparently it’s hard coded, though the terms and conditions don’t say anything about prime exclusive. Also to note, an amazon account can only have 1 free trial per year; not sure if there is a workaround.
When checking out, it said something like “Prime Savings”, but you’re right that it doesn’t say anything about requiring Prime membership elsewhere.
I’m not sure of a workaround to the 1 free trial per year. You can pay month-to-month, so depending on the deals available it might be worth paying the $12.99 for one month for access to these deals.
