Amazon launched a bunch of new gift card deals today (here and here), some of which offer Amazon promo credit. That’s credit that gets attached to your Amazon account for your next purchase and expires after something like 2-3 months.
In the past it was easy to use those credits because they could be applied to gift card orders in addition to orders of regular merchandise. Frank commented on one of those posts to highlight that unfortunately Amazon has devalued the promo credits because they can no longer be redeemed when buying gift cards, only on merchandise sold by Amazon.
That sucks. I don’t do product reselling (only gift card reselling) and don’t need to order much from Amazon, so my usual redemption method was to redeem these when buying gift cards whenever the next set of deals came along. That was particularly the case on my wife’s account.
As a result, it’s unlikely that we’ll buy many of the deals that provide Amazon promo credit as it’ll be too much hassle keeping track of whether we’ve redeemed it and I don’t want us to have a bunch of breakage. I guess Jeff’s got to pay for Blue Origin’s rocket launches somehow.
Can confirm, I saw the same failure to be applied to orders this morning. There is of course a chance that they just aren’t becoming available as quickly in Amazon’s back-end. Some months ago I remember the promo credits didn’t become available until 24 hours later?
See if the promo credit by adding some regular stuff to your cart. If the discount works, then it really is a devaluation.
Just got back to this, and unfortunately can confirm… work on items from Amazon.com, do not work on ACI (gift cards).
I had promo credits from a prior sale that applied on gift cards purchased today FWIW. But promo credits earned from today’s deals do not.
Guess it’s the new promo credits? I got one right now from the last sale and it applies to the current GC deals.
Just had a long talk with a supervisor. The terms of these promotions don’t specifically exclude use on future gift card purchases. There are other terms on amazon that state promo credits cannot be used for gift card, which is new. I pointed out the conflict between the various terms and said at a minimum they need to clearly state gift cards are excluded on the product promo terms and conditions. Seems a bit fraudulent.
It just sounds like Amazon will make sure to add the exclusion of gift card purchases from their promotions from now
Even without the addition to fine print, reps overseas (including supervisors) can easily claim “ACI Gift cards” are not products shipped and sold by Amazon
First they blocked the purchased of 3rd party gift cards with amazon GC balance and now this, absolutely no point in purchasing any third party gift cards from amazon moving forward. And no 5% CB using their card or any other credit card is not a good reason
