Let’s gather around for story time.
Once upon a time, in a land not so far away, there was a grocery chain called Giant. In fact there were two Giants in this land – Giant Food and Giant Food Stores.
These Giants, along with Martin’s and Stop & Shop (who are all owned by the same company) used to run some great gift card deals. However, at some point several months back one of the Giants decided that they’d like to become more boring than the Twilight movies and stopped offering some of its legendary deals.
In their place remained a sad remnant of what can barely be described as a gift card “deal”. Those “deals” now resembled that curled up piece of Voldemort in the Kings Cross Station-esque scene towards the end of the second Deathly Hallows movie.
For example, starting tomorrow Giant will be offering 4x points on Fanatics and Topgolf gift cards. Now, if you’re new to these stories about Giants, you might think that 4x is amazing as it’s four times great than 1x – a giant of a rate perhaps.
But no.
Those points can be redeemed for 4% back towards groceries or up to 8% back towards gas. Considering these two gift card brands are always on sale for 20% off or more elsewhere, 4% off groceries is a poor attempt at an offer. It’s the gift card deal version of the All Saints’ cover version of Under The Bridge. They’re both a travesty and are both downright offensive in how poor they are. (Side note: All Saints did have some good songs. This was not one of them due to how badly they slaughtered it.)
Anyway, back to the land of Giants. The Giant Food Store which is more akin to Martin’s still tends to run good deals. The Giant whose logo you see atop this post on the other hand has brought shame on its family with its continuing array of 4x deals rather than the 10x normally offered by Giant Food Stores, Martin’s and Stop & Shop.
As a result, this particular Giant is being cast out of the (GC Galore) kingdom for now. No more of their deals will be posted on here until they live up to their name and post some deals that are Giant rather than Lilliputian.
And there endeth this sermon.
LOL!
Terrible read. You could have explained all that in one sentence.
Yep, I could’ve.
Disagree. All Saints is a terrible group, I can’t think of any good songs.
To be honest, I think it’s more the nostalgia value nowadays. Back in the day I didn’t like them (although I did prefer them being on the radio to the Spice Girls), but hearing some of their songs since then takes me back to the mid-to-late 90s.
I couldn’t agree with you more. If other stores can and have offered better gift card deals why can’t Giant?! I’m following suit and have deleted them from the DIS. Good on you brother!
And Bob, really? Lol, L
