Blackhawk Network frequently makes changes to its multi-store gift cards – Happy, Giving Good, Choice and One4All, with Happy and Choice being the ones that more commonly have changes.
They appear to have made more changes to their Happy gift card lineup, seemingly retiring three of those brands. Here are which ones:
Happy Teen
Eligible brands:
- Regal Cinemas
- Dave & Buster’s
- Barnes & Noble
- Jamba Juice
- Sephora
- American Eagle
- Under Armour
Happy Eats
Eligible brands:
- Jamba Juice
- Panera Bread
- Cold Stone Creamery
- Dave & Buster’s
- Burger King
Happy Birthday (Black)
Eligible brands:
- The Cheesecake Factory
- Macy’s
- Panera Bread
- Ulta Beauty
- Dave & Buster’s
- Regal Cinemas
What This Means
There are a few implications following these changes. First of all, it continues the trend of Blackhawk Network doing away with the multi-store cards that get redeemed in-store, clearly favoring the ‘Swap’ cards that get redeemed online by exchanging the brands for gift cards for eligible brands.
It also has a big impact on brands available on their range of multi-store cards. For example, the following retailers/restaurants are now no longer available on any physical cards that get used in-store, although are still available on ‘Swap’ cards:
- Dave & Buster’s
- Barnes & Noble
- Jamba Juice
- Under Armour
Even more importantly, there are now three retailers/restaurants that no longer appear on any multi-store cards, Swap or otherwise:
- Sephora
- American Eagle
- Burger King
Something to note is that it might still be possible to buy these gift cards in-store at retailers that have gift card racks (e.g. grocery stores, Lowe’s, etc). However, these brands appear to have been removed from purchase online and so stores will likely follow soon.
War on happiness
American Eagle is on swap One4All but the other two brands are not
My experience is that once BHN stops selling a Happy version, it can no longer be activated in-store, even if it is still on the rack.
