Tips & Ideas
This offer used to come around every year, although I don’t remember seeing it in 2020 and so it’s good to see it make a return.
An AARP membership is cheap anyway (you can usually get it for $12 for the first year), but free is even better if you can make use of the $15 worth of Walgreens branded items that are eligible for this offer. If you spend $15+ on eligible products, a code should print on your receipt which you enter at the second of the two links listed above to get your free membership.
From a gift card perspective, an AARP membership can be useful because AARP Rewards sells discounted gift cards. While their Daily Deals are available for anyone, there are other gift card deals that are only available for members.

Any idea if this works for online purchases?
I would guess that it does, but I don’t remember ever hearing any data points either way from past promotions.
FYI: terms and conditions say this offer is only available to those 45+.
Whereabouts are you seeing that? Is it on the second screen for ‘Identification’ after submitting the code on your receipt?
It doesn’t come up on the Walgreens site but comes up on the AARP site when you go to the offer and click ‘Disclosures.’ “Limited Time Member Offer RestrictionsFree AARP Membership*
*Offer available to those 45+. Must be a myWalgreens member to receive offer…”

Great, thank you! I’ll update the post.
The code will print out on a Catalina coupon and not the receipt, so you might have to ask the cashier if they don’t give it to you.
If the Catalina machine is facing outwards, check for coupons left by previous customers. I found one and had no problems using it to extend my current AARO membership, and I’m well under 45.
