Tips & Ideas
Although the terms exclude gift card purchases, that seems to be more of a reference to the fact that you don’t normally earn cashback when buying gift cards from most online retailers.
There are a couple of exceptions to this though – GiftCards.com and Raise. Both of those only sell gift cards, but they do earn cashback through the Upromise portal (1% and 2% respectively at the time of writing). When Upromise offered a $100 bonus last year, I purchased some Visa gift cards to test this out. Sure enough, I ended up earning 1% cashback on the Visa gift cards as standard, along with the $100 bonus.
With this promo, the easiest way to max out the offer will be to buy a $500 Visa gift card from GiftCards.com. You’ll earn $5.07 cashback due to the 1% cashback rate (the extra $0.07 is from the activation fee) and $10 from the bonus, although you will have to pay for shipping. Still, it’s an easy way to make a little profit and is especially helpful if you’re working on minimum spend for a new credit card and are having a harder time than usual making the minimum spend requirement due to the current shutdowns.
