Key Terms

During the “Mystery Bonus” offer, which runs from 05/04/20 through 05/08/20 at 11:59:59 pm ET (the “Bonus Period”), Member will earn a one-time bonus of $10 bonus cash back on qualifying purchases, in addition to the standard cash back earned from shopping online through Upromise Shopping.
This one-time bonus award will be determined based on Member’s cumulative qualifying purchases made during the Bonus Period: Earn $10 cash back for qualifying purchases of at least $125 or more.
“Qualifying purchases” do not include returns, cancellations, shipping and handling, taxes, gift card or other cash equivalent purchases, and certain products that are not eligible for bonus cash back.

Tips & Ideas

As always, the terms exclude gift cards but that’s not strictly true based on past experience. That exclusion seems to be based on the fact that gift card purchases from most online retailers don’t typically earn cashback. A couple of exceptions are GiftCards.com and Raise seeing as you can earn cashback through the Upromise shopping portal with them.

While the $10 bonus isn’t as nice as the $100 bonus they offered last year, it’ll help set off activations fees and shipping fees when having Visa or Mastercard gift cards mailed to you from GiftCards.com.

Just FYI, it looks like Upromise has increased rates at a bunch of different retailers (although sadly not Raise and GiftCards.com), so you might be able to take advantage of this promo through regular online spending.

In case you’re not too familiar with Upromise, although it’s ostensibly there for saving for college, cashback you earn through their shopping portal doesn’t have to be invested in a 529 account. Instead, you can just have it transferred to your checking account.
