Key Terms
Terms below are for the United shopping portal offer. The terms on the American Airlines portal are similar other than the spending requirement, AA’s expiry date for this promo being April 16 & the fact that AA doesn’t have in-store offers.
- During the “Mystery Bonus” offer, which runs from 4/11/2022 through 4/20/2022 at 11:59:59 pm ET (the “Bonus Period”), Member will earn a one-time bonus of up to 500 MileagePlus bonus award miles on qualifying purchases made through the MileagePlus Shopping mall or from purchases made through MileagePlus Shopping in-store offers.
- This one-time bonus award will be based on Member’s cumulative qualifying purchases made during the Bonus Period: Earn 500 miles for qualifying purchases of at least $100 or more.
- “Qualifying purchases” do not include returns, cancellations, shipping and handling, taxes, gift card or other cash equivalent purchases, and certain products that are not eligible for bonus miles.
- Please allow up to 10 weeks after the Bonus Period for bonus award miles to post to your MileagePlus Shopping account.
Tips & Ideas
These are pretty good deals because there are low spending thresholds and if you spend the exact spending threshold amount, you’ll effectively be earning a bonus 5x miles per dollar for the United portal promo and 4x for the American Airlines promo.
The United offer is slightly better not only because you don’t have to spend as much, but also because their portal has a card-linked in-store offer program that can make it even easier to spend $100. The American Airlines offer on the other hand might be of interest if you’re trying to earn as many Loyalty Points as possible in order to earn status. While the 500 bonus miles you’ll earn from this offer won’t earn you an equivalent number of Loyalty Points, the bonus miles could make using their portal more worthwhile in order to earn the base Loyalty Points.
Although gift card purchases are excluded, buying gift cards from Raise or Giftcards.com should trigger the bonus. In-store gift card purchases using the United portal’s card-linked program might work too.
