There’s some bad news out today regarding the Slide app. The affiliate program for Slide sent out notification to affiliates last night that with effect from today (June 18, 2022), they’ll be dropping the commission they pay on the following brands from 4% to 2%:
- eBay
- Uber
- Uber Eats
- Dick’s Sporting Goods
- Nike
- Best Buy
These are some of the highest value gift card brands available in the Slide app, so it’s not necessarily surprising that they’d seek to reduce how much commission they pay out on these brands, although it’s very disappointing news.
The reason this matters is because it’s resulting in shopping portals dropping the cashback rate they offer for these gift card brands. Seeing as TopCashback and Dollar Dig previously offered 4% cashback for all brands (although Slide isn’t available on TopCashback right now), that means these six affected brands will be dropped to 2% cashback on those portals.
That greatly reduces their appeal for resellers. Slide will still offer 4% cashback as standard on the purchase, although that can vary for Nike because sometimes it’s classified as a Slide Selects brand that doesn’t earn cashback. You can also earn 1% cashback by preloading your account with a credit card, Google Pay, Apple Pay or PayPal, or 2% cashback by preloading with a debit card. That means the most cashback you’ll be able to earn on the six affected brands will be 7%-8% depending on your preloading method. That means you’d need to resell at a 93% or 92% rate in order to break even which will be much more of a challenge.
Dollar Dig has already added a note that you’ll only earn 2% cashback on gift cards for eBay, Uber, Uber Eats, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Nike and Best Buy, so other shopping portals will presumably follow suit.
