A program that was easy to miss the existence of is coming to an end in just over a week’s time.
Uber has (secretly) announced that their Uber Visa Local Offers program will be ending on February 24, 2021. I say it was secretly announced because I stumbled across the “announcement” here while researching something relating to the program. They don’t seem to have let people enrolled in the program know though, nor do they advise people of the impending closure of the program when going to Visa Local Offers in the app.
To access the program, you have to open the Uber app then go to Menu > Wallet > Earn Uber Cash With Visa. It’s therefore hidden away in the app which is why it was easy to miss that the program even existed. The way Uber Visa Local offers worked is that you’d earn Uber Cash when shopping at eligible retailers or eating at participating restaurants and paying with a Visa card which was added as a payment method in the Uber app. Once you enrolled in the program, that’s all you had to do – there was no need to activate any offers in order for it to work.
Uber Visa Local Offers didn’t have too many uses on the gift card front, but it was part of my extreme stack which helped me make a profit when buying a Costco membership. I think I’d only ever earned Uber Cash from Visa Local Offers a couple of times, but it’s a shame to see it go the way of the dodo nonetheless.
