- You will earn 1,000 Hilton Honors Base Points after you spend $1,000 in eligible purchases on your Hilton Honors American Express Card (“Purchase Requirement”) starting from the time you complete enrollment through December 18, 2020 (“Purchase Period”), up to a maximum of 30,000 Hilton Honors Base Points.
- Each time you reach the Purchase Requirement, the Hilton Honors Base Points will be credited to your Hilton Honors account up to 12 weeks following the end of the billing cycle.
- The Hilton Honors Base Points you may earn during the Purchase Period as part of this offer are in addition to any other Base Points you may get from using your Card.
- Purchases may fall outside of the Purchase Period (and therefore not be eligible for the Offer) in some cases, such as a delay in merchants submitting transactions to us or if the purchase date differs from the date you made the transaction. (For example, if you buy goods online, the purchase date may be the date the goods are shipped).
- Eligible purchases do NOT include fees or interest charges, cash advances, purchases of traveler’s checks, purchases or reloading of prepaid cards, purchases of gift cards, person-to-person payments, or purchases of any cash equivalents.
- Eligible purchases to meet the Purchase Requirement are for goods and services minus returns and other credits.
- To receive the Hilton Honors Base Points, your Card Account must not be cancelled or past due at the time of fulfillment.
Tips & Ideas
While 1 Hilton point per dollar spent isn’t amazing, Hilton cards already have some strong earning categories. The Hilton Aspire card earns 14x on Hilton stays, so this would make it 15x for every $1,000 you spend overall, the Surpass card offers 6x on groceries and so this offer makes that a 7x card, etc.
This isn’t too enticing from a gift card perspective though. Not only has Amex specifically excluded gift card purchases in the terms above, but they clawed back points from many people who took advantage of the 12x earnings at grocery stores on Hilton cards recently. Throwing in the odd $50 or $100 gift card into your shopping basket while grocery shopping shouldn’t be a problem with this offer, but I wouldn’t bother trying to spend $30,000 on gift cards in the expectation that you’ll earn an additional 30,000 Hilton Honors points on top of the regular earnings.
There are a couple of additional interesting features of this offer though. First, the “bonus” points you earn are actually base points and so will count towards lifetime status.
Second, this offer means you’ll earn at least 4x Hilton points on all your purchases (albeit when spending in total overall increments of $1,000) because all their cards earn 3x as standard. Depending on how you value Hilton Honors points, that might make them a more viable choice for tax payments, especially if you’re working on the spend towards a free night certificate on a Surpass ($15,000) or Aspire ($60,000) card.
I had this offer on my Aspire card, while my wife had it on her Surpass card, so check all your different Hilton cards. I have all three flavors of Hilton personal cards, so it was a shame it wasn’t on my Surpass card for 7x earnings at grocery stores and gas stations.
