Tips & Ideas
This deal comes around every year during the holidays and it’s always a welcome sight.
There are a few keys things to be aware of with this deal. First, it seems you have to load a digital coupon to your account in order to get the discount; I don’t know if that’s only for online purchases though or if the same goes for in-store purchases.
Secondly, Target is vigilant about preventing people from gaming this offer. When they’ve identified people buying more than $500 worth of gift cards in the past they’ve cancelled gift cards. That can be particularly problematic if you’re buying them to resell.
The requirement that you load a digital coupon to a Target account is presumably one way they’re trying to cut down on people buying more than the specified limits seeing as it means you have to go through the effort of creating unique accounts in the first place. If you’re planning on buying more than $500 worth of cards, don’t pay with the same credit card across accounts as that’s one way they’ve identified people before and subsequently cancelled their gift card purchases.
Third, paying with a Target RedCard doesn’t earn an additional 5% off, so it’s best to pay with a different card like the Discover It card which is offering 5% cashback at Target.com this quarter on up to $1,500 of spend.

Interested to see if the Citi Offers 5% back or 10 off $50 or more works.
I don’t see target.com in Citi Offers.
