(EXPIRED) (Update: 800 Includes Standard Earnings) Speedway: Earn 800 Bonus Points For Every $25 Spent On Gift Cards

Update 11/27/20: It turns out the 800 bonus points per $25 includes the standard 20x you earn when buying gift cards, so you’re actually only earning an extra 12x with this deal. I’d thought every $25 purchase would earn you 1,300 points: 500 from $25 * 20 from standard earnings and then 800 on top from this promotion. You only earn 800 points per $25 though, so that’s like 32x total. That’s still a decent return compared to normal, but not as good as I initially thought.

It also appears that this promotion ends on November 30. Speedway sent an email out today advertising the promotion relating to Speedy Cash gift cards, but the same presumably goes for other third party gift cards too. h/t Randy for letting me know about this today. Thanks also to the reader who reached out yesterday (sorry, not sure what your name is) who shared what they earned from a gift card purchase. I didn’t do the math based on how many points you told me you earned – I just thought you were confirming that the deal had gone live, but if I’d actually calculated it I would’ve realized you were saying you earned 32x.

Update 2: Looks like they sent the push notification about the offer one day early as this deal is now live.

Update 11/26/20: There have been reports in the comments below and elsewhere that the bonus points aren’t being earned yet. Unfortunately Speedway didn’t give any details beyond what you see in the image below, so there’s no knowing if the deal was definitely supposed to be live yet.

It seems strange that they’d send a push notification for an offer which wasn’t valid yet. Matt suggested below that it might be starting on December as that’s when the existing batch of offers are due to end. On the one hand that certainly makes sense. On the other hand, offering 800 bonus points per $25 spent would be in keeping with the fact that it’s Thanksgiving/Black Friday week which is when we’d expect to see offers like this. Also, Speedway doesn’t tend to pre-announce deals other than the fact that you can pre-select your monthly perk a week ahead of time, so it seems strange that they’d announce a deal that’s a week away. It might therefore be that this accidentally got announced early, or perhaps this is meant to be live but there’s a glitch in their system which has resulted in no bonus earnings.

I’m more than 60 miles from a Speedway for the next week, so I can’t test for myself if and when this deal goes live. If you happen to make a gift card purchase and earn these bonus points, please let us know in the comments below.

Every $100 spent on gift cards will therefore earn 5,200 points. That’s because you earn 20x per dollar normally which is 2,000 points. You’d then earn 4x 800 bonus points which is 3,200 for a total of 5,200. That’s worth ~4-5% when redeeming those points for gift cards which is a decent return.

As always, pay with a card that earns more at gas stations to make the deal even more worthwhile.
