Online gift card purchases – both physical and digital – are excluded because payments for those aren’t processed by Smokey Bones and so won’t trigger the Amex Offer statement credit. However, you can buy a $40 gift card in-restaurant to lock in the 25% discount.
Smokey Bones also has a bonus card offer at the moment where you get a $10 bonus card for every $50 spent on gift cards. This is also available in-restaurant, so you could buy a $50 gift card for $40 after the statement credit and get a $10 bonus card on top.
One thing to be aware of is that Sam’s Club sells 2x $25 Smokey Bones gift cards for $37.50, so if you have a Sam’s Club membership you can save 30% on these gift cards any day of the week.
