This deal is a little confusing because the main banner in the email says it’s a Cyber Monday deal which ends today. However, there are other terms in the email which suggest that you have to renew by December 31, 2020. I don’t know if they’ve copied and pasted that December 31 section from a different promotion/email by accident, or if you really do have through the end of the year to renew your membership to get the $20 gift card. Just in case, here’s a screenshot of that wording in case you didn’t get the email:
A $20 gift card in return for the $45 renewal is a fairly good offer if you just want an uninterrupted membership without any hassle. However, if you have a partner, you can have them sign up for one of the frequent Sam’s Club membership offers which work out free / better than free, then they can add you as a household member so you still have a membership.
Update: EW pointed out in the comments below that the screenshot of the terms says you get $20 off a $45 gift card. That makes me think that section I screenshotted relates to a different offer and that they probably copied an email template from a different offer. The banner in the email had a countdown timer to the end of November 30 and says you got a $20 gift card, whereas that separate section not only says that the promo ends on December 31 but that you get a $20 discount off a $45 gift card, not a $20 gift card itself.

Actually, that makes me think that section I screenshotted must relate to a different promo and it was simply included in the footer of the email by accident because it contradicts the offer banner which says you get a $20 gift card rather than $20 off a $45 gift card. I’ll update the post though to highlight this discrepancy in the terms.
Renewed online yesterday, but when tried to redeem the code at the membership desk, the code expired. Looks like renew and redeem should be done on the same day.
I just chatted with customer service and told them I was wary to go into the store at this time to obtain the gift card. They refunded me $20. Took less than five minutes.
