Tips & Ideas
This is a fantastic deal for all kinds of reasons. First, there’s a profitable Sam’s Club membership deal with a different Amex Offer.
Second, there’s no maximum spend limit for this offer, so you’ll earn 5x or 6x until the end of the year on all Sam’s Club purchases (other than the exclusions noted above). The 5x or 6x depends on which card you add the offer to.
Third, Sam’s Club sells a wide range of gift cards including Visa and Mastercard gift cards, so you should earn 5x or 6x on all those purchases unless the Amex RAT team decides to ixnay that.
Fourth, assuming gift card purchases aren’t an issue, Sam’s Club sells discounted gift cards every day of the week.
Fifth, Sam’s Club often runs gift card deals with discounts on top of their already discounted prices (e.g. these offers), especially during the upcoming holiday season.
Sixth, none of the quarterly 5% cards like Discover or Chase Freedom have wholesale clubs as a Q4 category this year, so earning 5x or 6x Membership Rewards is as good as you’re going to get (I think).
Seventh, this is good both online and in-store. For online purchases, you can stack with shopping portals, with the British Airways Avios portal offering 8x at the time of writing. For in-store purchases, this will stack with Bumped.
And 4 % on Dosh!
Stephen, I don’t see GCs being excluded – VGC, MGC or other 3rd party ones.
They (RAT) can’t retroactively exclude them and claw back points, can they?
You’d hope they wouldn’t, although I wouldn’t put it past them. They clawed back the 10% statement credits from a Staples Amex Offer in the past from people who’d added the offer to multiple cards, so if you hit this offer incredibly hard they might target you for clawbacks.
If you’re only buying a few thousand dollars worth though, I’d certainly hope they wouldn’t do that.
Yeah, they also clawed back the Sam’s 10% offer last year from people who had used it on multiple cards.
I like to think this offer is different since I am only using it on one card and GCs are not explicitly excluded. We shall see …
Hey, can I offer one suggestion unrelated to any of this? You think you can perhaps get SSL certs for your site so it’s not “not secure” anymore? I like what you do here and HTTPS would be great. Thanks!
Sure, I’ll definitely look into that. I’d wondered about doing that before but had read there might be redirection issues going from http to https, but it’d certainly be a good thing to have, especially as Google apparently takes into account SSL on sites for its search results.
btw, thanks for the prompt to look into SSL. I discovered that my hosting provider includes free SSL certificates which is easy to implement, so the site should now be secure 🙂
