Tips & Ideas
This offer appears to be targeted as neither my wife nor I have it on any of our cards. You can buy a physical Saks Fifth Avenue gift card in-store or online to lock in the discount/rewards, although eGift cards won’t work to trigger the statement credit as those payments aren’t processed by Saks.
The $250 version of the offer is obviously best as that works out to be a 20% discount, although the $350 offer is still good as it’s a 14.29% discount and so might still be worthwhile for some gift card resellers.
If you get this offer an a personal Amex Platinum card, it’ll stack with the twice-yearly Saks Fifth Avenue benefit. You might need to spend an additional $50 to trigger both the Amex Offer and the Saks benefit though because if the $50 Saks benefit is deducted first, Amex might regard you as only having spend $200 or $300 (depending on which offer you had) and so not give you the statement credit from the Amex Offer.
Can I buy a $50 Saks gift card online to get the $50 benefit on my AMEX Platinum? I know there was some talk about clawbacks at one point for people who did this.
I’d heard data points of that happening too, but I’ve not had clawbacks happen when I’ve done that. One thing to note though is that you have to buy physical gift cards and those start at $150 rather than $50 unfortunately.
