Rue21 has announced that they’ve once again filed for bankruptcy, but this time the long term news is even worse for them – they’ll be going out of business permanently.
They’ll be starting “Going out of business” sales soon, with the expectation being that all 500+ of its stores will be closing within the next 4-6 weeks (i.e. by mid-June 2024 at the latest). Although their bricks & mortar stores will still be open for now, it appears that you won’t be able to place online orders as their website has been taken down – at least for now anyway.
What Does This Mean For Rue21 Gift Cards?
The news that they’ll be closing all their stores means that if you have any Rue21 gift cards, you’ll want to redeem those ASAP. Hopefully the fact that they’ll be holding sales to liquidate the clothing means that you’ll be able to pick up some bargains, but I’ve no idea how much stock stores will actually have. If you hold on to their gift cards for too long, there’s also the risk that their store(s) closest to you will also close sooner than 4-6 weeks.
Sam’s Club is still selling $50 Rue21 gift cards for $39.98 (our affiliate link) in case you wanted to buy their discounted gift cards in the hopes of picking up clothing at a large discount, but that obviously runs the risk that your gift cards won’t end up being worth anything in the event of store closures sooner than expected.
